The Importance of Now
I am not saying to not plan for the
future or to not think about it, but some tasks should be preformed with
nothing else in mind.
As Abraham Maslow said: "the
ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental
wellness."
What does this mean?
This means being able to drink
coffee and solely think about the coffee and how it's energizing your body and
how it tastes. If you are doing this you aren't thinking about what you need to
get done or about what your mother is doing.
So why is it important?
When we do it, we experience
things wholly. We remember to be grateful. We really taste the coffee, we
really feel the stretch, we really feel the laughter. If we go through life
living in the future we'll miss what's happening right now in this moment. We
don't want it to be too late when we realize that living in the moment makes us
happy and preform tasks better.
It is also important because you don't know when is the next time you will be stretching, or drinking coffee or even eating. You need to appreciate things now while they're happening because it might just be the last time they happen. Realize how special it is to be here now, sitting down, laying down, reading this.
I know it's difficult to do at
times, but try to live in the moment at least three times a day. Use your
senses to wholly experience moments and tasks.
Like in the photo above, where it
is focused on the moon and blurring the flowers, is how you should block out/
blur distracting thoughts.
Examples:
- Looking into the sky
- Taking a shower
- Eating a meal
- Going for a walk
- Writing
- Cooking
- Pampering yourself
- Stretching
- Swimming
- Watching the sunset
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed. See you in my next post.
